Roulette Strategies – Base Five

Playing roulette is all about making strategic decisions. The use of strategies is what makes this casino game so attractive among players. Some strategies are more complicated and more suitable for high rollers, and some are more suitable for casuals. Others can adhere to the needs of both types of players.

The Base Five strategy is a system that can appeal to the needs of all types of players. Why? Because it’s simple to understand and you can easily adjust the bet size according to your needs. It works on a similar principle as the Fibonacci system, only much simpler.

The Basics of Base Five Roulette Betting Strategy

This is actually based on the number sequence 1 - 2 - 3 - 5, and these can be looked at as multipliers-1x, 2x, 3x, and 5x. With every win, you increase the bet amount by following this sequence. In case of a loss, you will have to reboot and start afresh from the start. In other words:

Base Five Strategy algorithm
  • Start with a CAD 5 bet on one of the even-money bets. Any may be chosen but only even money bets are allowed.
  • If you win on a bet, increase your next wager in progression. For example, if your initial CAD 5 bet happens to win, the following number in the series would be 2 and your second bet should be CAD 10 (5x2). If you are to win once more, the third bet is CAD 15 (5x3) and the fourth CAD 25 (5x5).
  • Whatever happens, whether you win or lose on any one stage, once a sequence is completed you go back to the start and must make the bet with a CAD 5 stake. You can stop at any time.

The system tries to hit a streak of four wins in a row for profit. In European roulette, the probability of this occurring is 5.57%. This isn't extremely high, although the oft-unpredictable nature of the game can sometimes see surprises occur. We are going to test the conclusions of the Base Five system through a simulator.

Base Five System In Practical Use

We simulated it in JavaScript, where three players started with bankrolls of CAD 1,000. They made a total of 500 spins-sufficiently long to see how the system works in both the short and long run. The following graph illustrates the results of the simulation.

Test of Base Five strategy

At one point or another in the simulation, each player reached an instance where there was some sort of profit realized. The best performer was Player 1, who reached a peak balance of CAD 1,145 on the 39th spin. Player 3 had a bit of a rougher time in terms of making a profit. His peak balance was only CAD 1,045. However, if any of these players decided to stop at those instances of profit, none of them would have lost money. It is worth noting that the graphs do not represent a steady march-the winning and losing streaks occurred in rapid and often frenzied succession, to which concept we will return in greater detail below.

Pitfalls of Base Five System

The actual progression of numbers in the Base Five System has no practical significance. Neither does the first CAD 5 bet have mathematical basis. Actually, the system can work equally well with a first bet of CAD 1 and another sequence such as 2 – 4 – 6 – 8. In other words, the particular numbers used are immaterial; of prime importance is the attainment of four successive wins. If this can be done, then there is the possibility of a profit regardless of the sequence chosen or the amount wagered. As unspectacular as it might be, at least it provides a chance to leave the game with more money than with which you entered.

What this illustrates is the most fundamental problem with the Base Five system: how probable is it that four wins in a row are going to appear? An even-money bet should, in theory, win more than 48% of the time in European roulette, but the probability of four back-to-back wins drops to just 5.57%. That's an already depressingly-low rate, but the real problem isn't the rarity of such winning and losing streaks. Returning to the results of the simulation emphasizes the system's one golden rule: if, through a loss, the sequence isn't completed, you need to go right back to the very beginning and repeat it.

Final Thoughts – Base Five Brings Diversity in Roulette Betting

There are many strategies that you can use to increase your chances of winning in roulette. Base Five is a good example of a system that can be used by all types of players. Plus, the sequence has 4 rounds and you can stop whenever you want or when you complete it in its entirety.
